Why did I choose medicine?

alainwambe.blogspot.com

To me practicing medicine is not a job, it’s a profession and a vocation. There is nothing more rewarding than putting a smile on a patient’s face. This noble profession is meant for selfless people, people who serve with passion.

They are numerous reasons why I chose to study medicine but the most important one is the passion and respect I have for it. Early in high school when I started thinking about my future career I thought Sciences especially medicine was the career for me. My favorite subjects were Chemistry, Physics and Biology which in my opinion are key subjects to master if you are interested in medical school. I also thought medicine was the most challenging major to study at the university and medical students used to be my role models because of their smartness. Therefore I wanted to be part of them, part of the super-smart, part of the men and women with the white coat. I said to myself  ‘’why not me? I’m smart, I’m talented, I’m hardworking and I’m ready for the challenges it takes to be a Doctor’’. That’s the attitude I adopted in high school and looking back I can say without any doubt that it paid off.

Curiosity also played a role in my decision to study medicine. I wanted to learn about the human body, to know the reasons why people get sick and look for ways to help relieve their suffering. I’m thrilled by the idea of being able to provide relief to someone else’s suffering.

All these reasons led me to consider medicine as a major and thanks to my motivation, determination and hard work I’m where I am today. My medical school adventure continues…
